  • Safety Culture Ladder

How safely do you want to work?

A safe working environment is of vital importance, but it means ensuring that employees are safety conscious and that they behave accordingly. Besides safeguarding the health and well-being of your workforce, a safety initiative enables you to demonstrate to your customers that safety really matters within your organization. The Safety Culture Ladder is a method to measure the safety awareness of your organization’s subcontractors or suppliers, or of your own employees. The Safety Culture Ladder comprises five rungs: organizations can climb the ladder from level 1 to level 5. They decide for themselves how high they wish to set the bar. The position on the ladder indicates how safely a company works – the higher, the better.

NEN is now running the Safety Culture Ladder scheme

The Safety Culture Ladder was originally developed by ProRail to encourage railway safety, but it soon became apparent that the model is also relevant for other organizations. Therefore, NEN has been responsible for managing this certification scheme since 1 July 2016.

We are a global partner for a safe world

Safety is at the very heart of our organization. Every day, over 45,000 employees across the globe are working hard to make our world even safer.

  • The Safety Culture Ladder is aimed at encouraging safety awareness and safe behavior. Working with the Safety Culture Ladder offers significant benefits:

    • Employees in a safe working environment are less likely to be absent due to accidents or (long-term) illness
    • You can prove to your suppliers, customers and other stakeholders that you take workplace safety seriously
    • If you can demonstrate that you work safely, you have a greater chance of winning tenders.

DEKRA’s auditors have extensive knowledge and experience of the Safety Culture Ladder. Our experts conduct audits and reference audits in both the Netherlands and Germany, not only for large organizations but also for many smaller businesses(SMEs). To maximize the efficiency of the process, you have a single point of contact within DEKRA. We can also conduct other audits for you, ensuring you get the best possible value out of your investment.

    SAQ (for TenneT contractors)

If you are active in an area with a low risk of accidents, but are nevertheless keen to take a structured and proactive approach to safety, the SAQ could be the ideal solution. It entails completing an extensive assessment to see if you have thought of everything. One of our auditors checks whether you have completed the SAQ correctly. This enables you to make great strides in improving your workplace safety, plus it is independently verified and can help you to benefit in the tender process.

    SAQ+ (for TenneT contractors)

If employees are exposed to safety risks within your organization even though you are not active in a high-risk sector, the SAQ+ could be perfect for you.
